We all want to have a nice lean midsection with defined abs, right? Especially in Los Angeles where it is sunny all year around and you can show them off… While the looks of nice abs are great, for a tennis player, the strength and functionality of the core is even more important: 1) It will allow transferring the power from your legs and hips to your upper body and arms. 2) You will be hitting your shots in better balance and as a result with more precision and power. 3) You will have fewer or no injuries as all the joints (hips, knees, and shoulders) will load and work in more harmony.
Balance training improves physical performance and decreases the risk of injuries, because it develops proprioception (your body’s sense of position), coordination and strength. Incorporate balance boards, discs, pads, rollers and balls into your training routine regularly to help develop great balance and better performance.

Having a strong core is extremely important in tennis – it gives stability to your hips and shoulders, which are essential for your stroke production. It allows a smooth transfer of power from your core to your limbs with perfect balance, strength, and flexibility. A strong core allows your limbs to move more efficiently and independently from each other, and as a result you can run faster and still execute your shots with precision and power.
